SI Group, a prominent global developer and manufacturer of performance additives, process solutions, pharmaceuticals, and chemical intermediates, has announced plans to close its alkylphenol manufacturing facility on Jurong Island, Singapore, in the latter half of 2025. The company will continue to supply alkylphenols from its established global presence, with manufacturing capabilities in both Europe and the Americas.

The Singapore plant, which opened in 2006, was originally established to serve the Asia Pacific market with alkylphenols and to produce SI Group's antioxidant products. However, significant changes in the antioxidant value chain in the region, combined with rising production costs in Singapore, have prompted this decision. Joey Gullion, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at SI Group, emphasized the facility's past importance, stating, "SI Group’s manufacturing facility in Singapore has been a valuable asset for our past growth and global presence." Nonetheless, he acknowledged that the current supply-demand dynamics in Asia and manufacturing costs necessitate this transition to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company’s global operations.

As a leader in performance additives, SI Group is committed to delivering value-added solutions to its customers worldwide, including those in the Asia Pacific region. With alkylphenol manufacturing capabilities located in Europe and the Americas, SI Group plans to retain its market leadership in alkylphenols while maintaining high standards of customer and technical service support. David Bradley, President and CEO of SI Group, noted the shift in strategy for the Asia Pacific market to better address customer needs. He stated, "The region is important to our business, and we believe this new approach will help us balance the market dynamics with our cost position."

The decision to close the Singapore facility is part of a broader strategy that includes a recent partnership with Dingjide, reflecting SI Group’s dedication to enhancing customer service. Bradley highlighted that the company is now better positioned to support customer growth, emphasizing the excitement surrounding these changes.

Manufacturing operations at the Singapore facility are set to conclude in the second half of 2025, and SI Group is committed to providing support and assistance to all employees affected by the closure, ensuring a smooth transition during this significant change.

SI Group is a global leader in advanced technologies for performance additives, process solutions, and chemical intermediates. The company’s solutions improve the quality and performance of industrial and consumer products in various sectors, including plastics, rubber and adhesives, fuels and lubricants, oilfield, and pharmaceuticals. Based in The Woodlands, Texas, USA, SI Group has 19 manufacturing facilities spread across three continents and serves customers in 80 countries, supported by a dedicated workforce of around 1,800 employees globally.
