DGTR to Inspect Against Imports of LDPE from Six Countries Under the Plea from Domestic Manufacturers

Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the investigation arm of commerce ministry, has received a plea from key Indian manufacturers of LDPE ( Low Density Polyethylene) to begin a full fledged investigation for the anti-dumping probe against the imports from Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United States of America. The domestic manufacturers of LDPE proclaimed that dumping from these six countries is causing alarming material injury to the local business. If the substantial application and the prima facie evidence lodged by the domestic industry are verified, DGTR would recommend the imposition of anti-dumping probe for imports from these countries. However, the final order will remain under the hand of the finance ministry of India. LDPE is a flexible, easy to process Polyethylene consolidating about 30 per cent demand from the packaging sector. Reliance Industries Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and GAIL India Limited are the leading manufacturers of LDPE in India. Governments inclinations towards making India a manufacturing hub for the sturdy performance of the domestic industries is likely to play major role for the growth of Indian LDPE market in the coming years.
