Wood, a renowned consultancy and engineering firm on a global scale, has secured a fresh contract from TotalEnergies (TEPUK) to aid in flare gas recovery efforts in the North Sea, aimed at decarbonization.

As part of the Elgin-Franklin Flare Gas Recovery System Project, Wood has been awarded a 23-month contract, building upon its prior achievements in completing a field study and front-end engineering design (FEED). This contract encompasses the coordination of operational, procurement, and design elements for the Elgin asset.

Under the leadership of Wood's Aberdeen team, this agreement will result in the creation of 40 new positions both onshore and offshore. As a component of TEPUK's Carbon Footprint Reduction roadmap, this project aims to redirect gas previously destined for flaring. Instead, it will pass through a new compressor system offshore for treatment and subsequent reuse.

Martin Simmonite, Senior Vice President for UK Operations at Wood, expressed his pleasure, stating: “It's a great pleasure to collaborate with TEPUK, assisting in the implementation of this decarbonization initiative and offering comprehensive project lifecycle solutions. Wood is dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions that contribute to a low-carbon future, and our teams are fully equipped to aid TEPUK as they implement their ambitious plan to reduce emissions throughout their operations.”

For more than two decades, Wood has collaborated with TotalEnergies on numerous projects and contracts worldwide. Situated in the Central North Sea, the Elgin-Franklin field comprises high-pressure, high-temperature gas reservoirs. TotalEnergies operates the field, while ENI, Harbour Energy, Ithaca Energy, NEO Energy, and ONE-Dyas hold non-operated interests.

Wood, officially known as John Wood Group plc, is a British multinational engineering and consulting corporation headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland. It is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange and is a component of the FTSE 250 Index. Founded in 1982 by Ian Wood, it originated as a spin-off from JW Holdings, the largest fishing company in Scotland. JW Holdings diversified into the energy services sector during the early 1970s, coinciding with the emergence of the North Sea oil industry. In September 2000, Wood expanded its operations by acquiring Mustang Engineering Inc, an engineering firm based in Houston, Texas. Wood specializes in providing consultancy, asset management, and engineering services to the energy and materials industries.

TEPUK, a subsidiary of the Total Group, stands as one of the foremost exploration and production entities. TotalEnergies stands as a major energy operator in the United Kingdom, boasting over six decades of comprehensive integration across the energy sector. This encompasses activities ranging from exploration and production to the manufacturing and marketing of energy products and services.
