There is no doubt that the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus started denting the U.S. economy at the beginning of 2022. This unprecedented spread of covid-19, high inflation, ongoing shortages, and slower consumer spending continue to threaten to sap the economic recovery. The U.S. wholesale prices escalated 1% in January itself, showcasing that there’s still enough inflation engulfing country’s economy as it is facing its worst cost pressures in four decades. The demand for nutraceutical supplements has significantly risen among the health-conscious consumers in the U.S. to alter their dietary habits. According to studies, it is estimated that 4 in 10 Americans are deficient in vitamin D because their bodies don’t manufacture enough on their own.

Consumers in the U.S. need to be reminded that nutritional supplements should not be treated as substitutes for a healthy diet but as a means of nutrition. The demand for Vitamins and zinc supplements grew effectively during the coronavirus pandemic and is likely to increase further in the upcoming weeks owing to the outbreak of Omicron. The nutraceuticals market’s growth in the U.S. is also attributed to the growing awareness among consumers to stay fit and eat right, which resulted in the increased consumption of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, probiotics, and other health supplements.

As per ChemAnalyst, the U.S. domestic market is expected to witness a price hike of Vitamin D in the upcoming months on the back of the consistently increasing demand from nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries. The prices of Vitamin D were assembled at $21150 per M.T. in the month of January 2022. According to the Pharma experts, the trend is likely to continue even after the impact of the pandemic wanes. In the U.S. market, immunity boosters were growing at a rate of 1-2% before the pandemic however, now, the market for Vitamin D3 grew by 80% after the pandemic. Besides immunity, consumers are also taking up nutritional supplements to improve cognition and alleviate stress.
