Messer, the foremost privately owned expert in industrial, medical, and specialty gases globally, is broadening its product range with "ZeCarb." "ZeCarb," short for "Zero Carbon," facilitates the decarbonization of industries characterized by high CO2 emissions.

In response to the growing global demand for solutions aimed at reducing CO2 emissions in industrial processes, Messer introduces "ZeCarb." According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), approximately 1.2 gigatons of CO2 emissions need to be mitigated annually through Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage (CCUS) to attain the net zero scenario by 2050. Leveraging decades of expertise in CO2 recovery, Messer's new "ZeCarb" service contributes to this effort. Bernd Eulitz, CEO of Messer, underscores the rationale, stating, "We are revolutionizing the approach for companies across all sectors to minimize their carbon footprint, align with global sustainability objectives, and explore new avenues for growth. Through our 'Carbon Capture as a Service' offering, branded 'ZeCarb,' we provide businesses and municipalities with a cost-effective means to meet their CO2 targets while fulfilling their environmental responsibilities."

The company captures CO2 emissions from various sources such as steel, cement, glass, paper, chemical production, and fossil-fired power plants before they are released into the atmosphere. The recovered CO2 is utilized in applications aimed at reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, such as in the production of synthetic fuels like e-fuels or sustainable aircraft fuels. Alternatively, the captured CO2 is securely stored underground in geological formations, typically in depleted oil and gas fields that have naturally stored a mixture of natural gas, nitrogen, and CO2 for millions of years.

With a presence in key markets across Asia, Europe, and America, Messer is globally interconnected with its partners. "This enables us to provide customers with all aspects of the CCUS value chain from a single source," says Dr. Tarek El Hawary, Chief Technology Officer at Messer. He adds, "The new ZeCarb service allows us to leverage our established CO2 recovery technology within the context of Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage."

ZeCarb represents a service brand of Messer, the largest privately owned expert in industrial, medical, and specialty gases worldwide. Through ZeCarb ("Zero Carbon"), Messer aids various industries and municipalities, including steel, cement, glass, paper, chemical production, and fossil-fired power plants, in achieving their "net zero" climate objectives by directly collecting CO2 emissions at the source. Leveraging decades of expertise in CO2 recovery, Messer extends its sustainable offerings globally across Asia, Europe, and America. This broad reach enables Messer to deliver all facets of the Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) value chain comprehensively. With over 90 systems installed worldwide, Messer boasts some of the most established and scalable CO2 recovery solutions.
