Itero Technologies, a London-based pioneer in chemical recycling, has entered into a partnership with Brightlands Chemelot Campus, headquartered in the Netherlands, to collaborate on the establishment of a chemical recycling demonstration facility. This cutting-edge plant, which is slated to commence operations in 2025, will employ pyrolysis technology to convert end-of-life plastics into valuable chemical resources, as confirmed by Itero.

Simon Hansford, the CEO of Itero, conveyed his excitement about the collaborative venture, stating that they welcomed taking the next crucial step alongside Brightlands. He noted that they perceived the circular materials ecosystem at Brightlands Chemelot Campus, which encompassed the Brightlands Circular Space initiative, as a seamless fit for the advancement of their recycling technology. He mentioned that it provided them access to remarkable expertise, involving professionals and talents who shared their objectives within the Limburg region. As per Itero, Brightlands will play a pivotal role in the preparatory, design, and construction phases of the demonstration facility.

Astrid Boeijen, CEO of Brightlands Chemelot Campus, emphasized the alignment of Itero's decision to establish its demonstration plant at Brightlands Chemelot Campus with their Brightlands Circular Space initiative, a hub for collaborative efforts and innovation in plastics circularity. She made a comment, stating that Itero's decision to establish its demonstration plant at Brightlands Chemelot Campus aligned with their Brightlands Circular Space initiative, which was regarded as the central hub for circular collaboration and innovation in the field of plastics circularity. She further mentioned that Brightlands Circular Space encompassed a fully circular demonstrator facility currently under development on the north side of their campus, with completion expected between 2024 and 2026.

Brightlands Chemelot Campus continues to expand its portfolio by welcoming the Itero demonstration plant into its ecosystem. This initiative complements other innovative facilities already situated at the campus, including Ioniqa, Blue Plastics, and ReSolved Technologies.

The collaboration between Itero Technologies and Brightlands Chemelot Campus signifies a significant step forward in the quest for sustainable solutions in plastic recycling. By harnessing pyrolysis technology to transform end-of-life plastics into valuable chemical resources, this joint effort aligns with the global goal of promoting circularity and reducing plastic waste. The involvement of Brightlands, with its established circular materials ecosystem, is expected to enhance the development and success of the demonstration plant, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment for tackling plastic circularity challenges.

The upcoming demonstration facility not only represents a milestone in sustainable technology but also serves as a testament to the dedication of both Itero Technologies and Brightlands Chemelot Campus in contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future. As the plant gears up to begin operations in 2025, it promises to play a pivotal role in advancing the cause of chemical recycling and circularity in the plastics industry.
