Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is on its way to produce the majorly used form of Natural Gas, Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the sources like vegetable oil, glycerol and most prominently, biomass. The Director and Senior Board Member of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Mr. S S V Ramkumar mentioned during the inauguration of the two-day national LPG Conclave 2020 on Friday, February 28, that Indian Oil is working on developing a technology to surge the production of LPG from the biomass. He also stated that IOCL is aiming to ensure that at least 10 percent of LPG consumed in the next 3 years is produced using only Biomass. This would be accomplished in accordance with the decision taken by World LPG Association who aims to generate at least 50 per cent of LPG from biomass, including vegetable waste, by 2040. He also added that the LPG has the potential to be promoted as automotive fuel in the country because it emits less methane in the atmosphere as compared to CNG. At the very last he added that the company is working towards enhancing the sophistication of the technology being used to convert Biomass into LPG, and by 2040, around 50 percent of the biomass will be efficiently converted into LPG.
