Glocal Green and Norwegian Hydrogen Forge Alliance for Green Hydrogen and Bio-Methanol Initiatives

Following two years of ongoing discussions since the initial letter of intent, Glocal Green AS and Norwegian Hydrogen AS have progressed to a formal collaboration agreement. This agreement signifies a significant step forward in the joint development and establishment of hydrogen production, integrated with Glocal Green's proposed bio-methanol plant.

A distinct jointly owned company will oversee the hydrogen production operations.

" Following two years of study and dialogue, we have mutually agreed to participate in hydrogen production alongside Glocal Green's methanol production facilities. This collaboration has evolved into a mutually beneficial model between the involved parties, enhancing efficiency across the entire value chain, and particularly benefiting the market," remarked Dag Nikolai Ryste, CEO of Glocal Green AS.

Bio-methanol will be produced from residual materials and by-products obtained from forestry, agriculture, and the marine sector. Through the integration of hydrogen into the production process, all green carbon is effectively utilized, leading to a twofold increase in methanol production capacity. This enhanced methanol, combined with hydrogen, is referred to as bio-e-methanol.

The demand for environmentally friendly methanol is vast and expanding, spanning the chemical industry and serving as a substitute for fossil fuels in maritime and aviation applications. The production of hydrogen necessitates access to power, particularly crucial in a world facing a growing energy deficit. This innovative concept, merging bio-waste with hydrogen, maximizes energy efficiency. By harnessing the energy from biomass in conjunction with added hydrogen, exceptional output power is achieved. The outcome is a competitively priced green liquid hydrogen carrier poised to make a substantial contribution to the global green transition.

The inaugural project is located in Øyer, situated in Gudbrandsdalen. The objective here is to achieve an annual output of 150,000 tons of bio-e-methanol, which will include the on-site production of 15,000 tons of green hydrogen via electrolysis. This exemplifies the potential of such a symbiotic relationship in advancing hydrogen production and enhancing the position of Norwegian Hydrogen AS as a key player in the hydrogen market.

Through the pooling of our resources and expertise, we are poised to provide sustainable solutions that address the rising need for eco-friendly fuels. We eagerly anticipate capitalizing on the myriad opportunities that this collaboration will unlock, both domestically and globally," stated Jens Berge, CEO of Norwegian Hydrogen AS.

In addition to the commitment in Øyer, the parties are also focused on establishing multiple similar projects, starting with initiatives in the Nordic region.
