Borealis Launches New Line of Polyolefin Plastomer and Elastomer Using Renewable Feedstock

Europe: Borealis launches new Bornewables line of Polyolefins Plastomers and Elastomers based on renewable feedstock, meeting demand for sustainable packaging solutions. The line uses ISCC PLUS-certified waste and residue streams such as vegetable oil products and used cooking oil for production, reducing Carbon emissions, while maintaining the same level of performance as fossil-based Polyolefins.

Borealis aims to boost its circular product and solution share up to 600 kilotonnes annually by 2025. To achieve this, the company plans to manufacture "circular" Plastomers and Elastomers. This move towards renewable feedstock is in line with Borealis' Circular Cascade program, which aims to support the plastic industry in transitioning to circular production.

Borealis' Bornewables line of Queo offers a valuable solution for customers to achieve their sustainability objectives while benefiting from Queo's excellent flexibility, sealability, processability, and compatibility properties.

Last year, Borealis partnered with PACCOR to produce Mono-Polypropylene lids and tubs using renewable feedstock certified by ISCC PLUS. Meanwhile, Henkel worked with BASF's certified biomass balance approach to implement renewable feedstock in its Laundry & Home Care and Beauty Care businesses. This move is projected to save around 110,000 tonnes of fossil-based feedstock annually, emphasizing the companies' commitment to sustainability.
