L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Collaborates with NTPC for Setting Up CO2-to-Methanol Plants

L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen and Toubro (L&T), has signed an MoU with NTPC Ltd. to construct a Carbon dioxide (CO2) to Methanol demonstration plant in NTPC Power Station. As per the signed pact, LTHE will be the engineering, procurement and construction management partner of the power utility giant which will enable in commercializing the CO2-to-methanol plants.

Subramanian Sarma, the Director and Senior Executive Vice President (Energy) of L&T, stated that this development will be a crucial step towards India’s commitment to combat the climate change. The CO2-to-Methanol conversion in the unit will undergo three primary stages namely capturing of carbon dioxide from the flue gas, electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen followed by catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide to Methanol. After signing the pact, the NTPC share price gained over 3 per cent recording intraday high of Rs 98.00 and an intraday low of Rs 94.45 on August 20.
