John Wood Group PLC, a global consulting and engineering leader, has secured a new three-year contract worth USD 46 million from TotalEnergies in Iraq. This project is part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) in Southern Iraq.

Wood is poised to offer a wide array of services, including comprehensive Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed design, procurement support, and construction and commissioning services for the initial phase of the Associated Gas Upstream Project. This project holds significant importance as a pivotal element of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) situated in Southern Iraq. The GGIP initiative is strategically designed to address several critical aspects, such as capturing flared gas in the Basra region for utilization in power generation plants, establishing a seawater treatment facility, and constructing a massive 1GW solar power plant, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy development in the region.

Shaun Dewar, Senior Vice President of Operations, Middle East and Africa at Wood, expressed pride in supporting TotalEnergies on the project, which aligns with their shared commitment to pursuing a secure and sustainable energy supply. He highlighted Wood's long-standing history of delivering engineering and consulting services in the region and noted that this contract reaffirms their reputation for excellence. Dewar mentioned that the project would improve environmental sustainability through emissions reduction efforts. He added that as part of the agreement, Wood would continue to invest in local employment and skills development in the Basra region.

The contract, to be executed by Wood’s proficient teams based in Basra and Dubai, will catalyze the creation of 100 new positions, further solidifying their operational footprint in the region. With a workforce already exceeding 1,300 individuals across Iraq and the UAE, Wood is poised to leverage its expertise and resources to drive the project's success. This expansion not only underscores Wood's commitment to local employment and skills development but also signifies a broader contribution to economic growth and stability in the Basra region and beyond.
