Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan made a progress review on Tuesday of the fertiliser plant at Talcher in Angul district of Odisha. The reviews agenda was to discuss various bottlenecks involved in the faster completion of Talcher Fertilizer Plant. The plant is being set up by Talcher Fertilisers Ltd. (TFL), a JV between GAIL (India) Limited, Coal India Limited, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. (RCF) and Fertiliser Corporation of India Ltd. (FCIL) and upon commissioning, will cut India’s natural gas and fertiliser import bill significantly. This project is India’s first coal gasification-based fertiliser plant with an estimated investment value of INR 116 Billion and has been allotted captive coal-mine in Talcher region. This marks the fifth closed fertiliser plant being revived by the Government to cater to the increasing demand for urea production in the country and reduce imports.
