Tree Energy Solutions (TES), a global pioneer in producing e-NG (electric natural gas from green hydrogen), is partnering with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE), a leading Japanese logistics firm known for its extensive fleet. Together, they aim to drive the maritime sector towards achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050.

TES, a frontrunner in providing reliable and affordable green energy, is making significant strides towards decarbonizing the maritime transport sector. Their strategy involves developing a global network of large-scale projects for e-NG production and import. E-NG, a sustainable alternative fuel, is produced by combining green hydrogen with captured or recycled CO2. This innovative molecule offers a promising solution to reduce emissions from ships without requiring major infrastructure upgrades. Recognizing the potential of e-NG, shipping giants like "K" LINE are strategically partnering with TES to transition their fleets to cleaner fuels like e-NG by 2030. This collaboration between TES and major shipping companies paves the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future for maritime transportation.

"K" LINE and TES are investigating potential collaboration avenues, including expanding e-NG partnerships and exploring different aspects of the value chain to expedite the adoption of cleaner fuels in maritime transportation. This partnership involves combining captured CO2 emissions with green hydrogen to generate e-NG, enabling the shift to cleaner bunker fuels for "K" LINE's ships. These discussions aim to secure a sustainable fuel source, e-NG, to fulfill "K" LINE's or its subsidiaries' bunkering requirements in Europe, sourced from TES's green energy hub in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.

Additionally, both entities will evaluate the regulatory environment concerning low or non-carbon fuels, carbon intensity, CO2 measurement, certification, and incentive programs. Through this assessment of supportive regulatory frameworks, "K" LINE and TES seek to enhance the advancement of e-NG projects, propelling the transition towards a more sustainable energy landscape.

Beyond commercial pursuits, technical collaboration is also planned, encompassing the operation and management of e-NG carriers and liquefied CO2 carriers, as well as the exchange of information regarding CO2 capture and utilization onboard vessels.

Marco Alverá, CEO and Co-Founder of TES, expressed “The partnership between “K” LINE and TES marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to drive decarbonisation within the maritime transport sector. By leveraging TES' expertise in green fuels and “K” LINE's commitment to decarbonise long-haul shipping, we aim to pioneer cleaner and more efficient maritime operations, setting a precedent for the industry worldwide.”
