Following the disclosure issued on July 7, 2022, MAIRE (MAIRE.MI) reports that Tecnimont (Integrated E&C Solutions) has been officially granted the notice to commence construction activities by Fertiglobe for the low-carbon ammonia plant project underway at TA’ZIZ Derivatives Park, situated in the Ruwais region of Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Fertiglobe, the leading nitrogen fertilizer producer in the MENA region, is collaborating with project partners TA’ZIZ (a joint venture between ADNOC and Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ), Mitsui & Co. Ltd, and GS Energy Corporation to develop the low-carbon ammonia plant.

Upon its operational launch in 2027, the ammonia facility, spanning 10.8 hectares, is projected to generate 3,000 tons per day (approximately 1 million tons per annum) of ammonia. This plant will be among several large-scale chemical and industrial facilities being developed by TA’ZIZ in the region, aiming to bolster local industry supply chains and strengthen In-Country Value mandates.

Low-carbon ammonia serves as a pivotal transitional fuel, playing a strategic role in the decarbonization efforts of the maritime industry. Moreover, it holds significant potential for various other energy applications, such as co-firing in coal power stations, aimed at mitigating carbon emissions.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE Group, expressed satisfaction, stating: "We are delighted to be reaffirmed as the preferred partner for the ambitious development projects in the region. Low-carbon ammonia signifies progress towards the UAE's decarbonization objectives, and our technological expertise and engineering capabilities will aid in expediting the energy transition in the Gulf."
