Sumitomo Chemical Secures Additional ISCC PLUS Certification for Polyethylene Products in Japan

Sumitomo Chemical has achieved International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS for products manufactured at its Chiba Works in Japan. ISCC PLUS is a global certification system designed to ensure that sustainable raw materials, including recycled and biomass materials, are effectively managed throughout the supply chain and manufacturing processes. This certification allows Sumitomo Chemical to use the mass balance approach, which enables the integration of certified sustainable materials into their products while maintaining transparency and traceability in their production and supply chain.

Sumitomo Chemical’s recently ISCC PLUS certified products, manufactured at its Chiba Works processing units, include a range of polyethylene and polypropylene products. In the Anesaki District and the Sodegaura District, the certified polyethylene products with names -SUMIKATHENE™, SUMIKATHENE™-L, SUMIKATHENE™ α, SUMIKATHENE™ Hiα, SUMIKATHENE™ EP, EXCELLEN™, EXCELLEN™ GMH, EXCELLEN™ FX,  EXCELLEN™ VL, GETABOND™, and ACRYFT™. Additionally, the certified polypropylene products are SUMITOMONOBLEN™ and EXCELLEN™. Propylene oxide is also included in the certification. This certification underscores Sumitomo Chemical’s commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing throughout its production processes.

The Anesaki district of Sumitomo Chemical’s Chiba Works has achieved certification as a trading and storage facility under the ISCC certification, allowing the company to manage all ISCC PLUS certified products, including ethylene, butadiene, and benzene. To enhance the visibility and recognition of these environmentally sustainable products, Sumitomo Chemical is exploring the possibility of marketing its ISCC PLUS certified offerings under the Meguri™ brand.
