Strong Feedstock Cost Pressure Catapults US Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Prices in Excess of USD 2900 Per MT

In the latest assessments, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene prices have been assessed at USD 2915 per MT on FOB basis. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene prices remain strong throughout 2021 owing to production disruptions and robust demand from downstream demand. The latest gain of 3 cents/lb (approx. USD 67 per MT) has again sent the shockwaves in US ABS market which recovered up to a certain extent since the beginning of 2022.

Feedstock prices have been again at the fore and resulted in another significant price increase in Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). All three feedstocks, Acrylonitrile, Butadiene and Styrene, have been stable to firm in the latest assessments. US Styrene has observed a heavy maintenance season in Q1 2022 which has restricted the supply availability of the material in the market. This has constrained the production rates of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene in the North American region.

Meanwhile, Acrylonitrile and Butadiene have been firm owing to significant demand from downstream, both Acrylonitrile and Butadiene cater to myriad of downstream products in polymers as well as elastomers.

As per ChemAnalyst “Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene market may again ease given that feedstock availability increase in coming weeks as downstream demand of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene has been stagnant to stable in the North American region. However, there is limited opportunity for Styrene supply rebound in the short term as maintenance period is unlikely to conclude in coming weeks. Acrylonitrile and Butadiene have also been in strong demand which has pressured market participants to keep the prices on the uptrend in latest assessments.”
