Oman’s growing polymer market is set to get a significant boost, as SNF, a France-based leader in chemical-enhanced oil recovery (EOR) solutions, has received official approval to establish a new polymer production plant in the Sultanate. This move is part of SNF’s ambitious $250 million expansion plan in Oman, first announced eight months ago. The project has garnered attention not only for its potential economic impact but also for its role in advancing sustainability and innovation in the region.

Jimmy Nesbitt, General Manager of SNF Oman, made the announcement at a press conference held at The Jungle Restaurant in Muscat. He expressed excitement about the approval from the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), stating, “Oman is emerging as a key player in the Middle East polymer market, and I am delighted to inform you that Madayn has given us the green light to set up the plant.”

The new facility will produce high-performance anionic polymers, a critical component in enhancing chemical EOR capabilities, which are increasingly in demand in the region’s oil and gas sector. Nesbitt emphasized that this plant would not only meet the growing needs of regional clients but also play a crucial role in creating local employment opportunities. “This project is a testament to our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and in-country value,” he added.

With over 20 years of operational presence in Oman, SNF’s long-term dedication to the country’s industrial development is evident. The company has focused on fostering local talent and contributing to Oman’s economic diversification efforts, a priority for the Sultanate. In line with this commitment, SNF’s Regional SNF Technical Centre (RSTC) in Muscat is also in its final stages of development. Scheduled to open in early 2025, the RSTC will serve as the company’s Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) R&D hub, with a strong focus on oil and gas innovation, particularly in polymer research for EOR applications in carbonate reservoirs, Water Shut-Off technologies, and more.

The RSTC will be equipped with cutting-edge laboratory facilities and is expected to be a vital source of technical support for SNF’s projects across the region, ensuring both efficiency and sustainability throughout their lifecycle. “The RSTC is not just a technical facility; it’s a hub for knowledge exchange and skill development,” Nesbitt explained. “We’re fostering the next generation of experts in oilfield technologies and sustainability practices through collaborations with Omani universities and institutions.”

This new project reflects SNF’s broader commitment to supporting Oman’s industrial and economic growth while delivering innovative solutions that cater to the region's evolving needs in the energy sector.
