Sika inaugurated a state-of-the-art facility in Liaoning, the largest province in northeastern China. This plant is equipped to produce a comprehensive array of products, spanning from mortars and tile adhesives to waterproofing solutions. With its exceptional efficiency, the new plant empowers Sika to fulfill market needs while substantially cutting down on logistical distances. Additionally, the Liaoning facility will manufacture mortar products incorporating up to 20% recycled materials in their production process.

The Liaoning facility will serve Sika's clientele across three provinces in northeastern China, encompassing a population exceeding 98 million, alongside east-central Mongolia. Beyond advanced production lines, the newly established plant offers office areas, laboratories, warehousing, and logistical support. Presently, Sika operates 34 manufacturing sites throughout China and has maintained a presence in the Chinese market for more than thirty years.

Philippe Jost, Regional Manager of Asia Pacific region, Sikka, remarked that the inauguration of the new mortar plant in Liaoning marks a significant milestone in their growth strategy. He emphasized that it enables them to enhance customer service in Northeast China through quicker delivery times and elevated service standards. Jost highlighted that this expansion underscores their dedication to quality and excellence, while also aligning with Sika’s overarching sustainability objectives on a global scale.

The Liaoning facility will manufacture various mortar products integrating up to 20% recycled raw materials like waste dust and mineral waste residues, a step forward in Sika's sustainability efforts. Moreover, Sika has initiated a transition from natural to alternative sands. By 2023, Sika China had achieved a 13% alternative sand ratio in mortar production, with half of its plants participating. Looking to the future, Sika China aims to substitute 50% of its total sand consumption with alternative options by 2028, aligning with its commitment to environmental responsibility and resource efficiency. This strategy not only enhances product sustainability but also contributes to reducing environmental impact by minimizing reliance on finite natural resources and promoting the utilization of recycled materials in construction applications.

In 2024, the Chinese construction sector is valued at approximately CHF 4.2 trillion, with projections indicating a steady growth rate of 3.9% annually until 2028. The government's ongoing five-year plan involves allocating more than half a trillion Swiss Francs through bond issuance specifically for infrastructure initiatives. Furthermore, China is directing significant investments, totaling CHF 12 trillion, towards transitioning to green practices to attain net zero emissions by 2060. This focus on sustainability is fueling demand for eco-friendly solutions in various sectors, including construction.
