Chemicals manufacturer Scott Bader announced recently that the company has purchased a facility in Mocksville, North Carolina to convert it into a new structural adhesives and gelcoats production plant.

The investment comes in the back of the company looking to tap the north American market. The new facility will provide additional capacity to the company in order to meet the customer needs and leverage the interest in their primer-less structural adhesives thereby amplifying the success the company already has in the product portfolio.

Scott Bader is an established Euro 249 million company which is among the leaders in the manufacturing of products for the composites, advanced composites, adhesives, and functional polymers markets.

Structural adhesives and gelcoats have major application in the construction sector. With the construction sector reviving in the US, the investment by Scott Bader is aiming at capturing the construction adhesives market in the US. The demand for adhesives stood at around 20 million tonnes in 2020 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5% during the upcoming years.

Gelcoats are majorly used in the composite industry which has major application in the construction sector. Other sectors of demand growth for gelcoat based composites are automotive and transportation. The demand for gelcoats stood at around 10 million tonnes in 2020 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8% during the upcoming years.

As per ChemAnalyst, “the proposed investment by Scott Bader towards construction of a new structural adhesives and gelcoats plant comes at a time when the construction sector is reviving from the shocks of the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, the new plant will be capturing the demand for structural adhesives in the US.”
