Saga Metals Corp. (“Saga”), a North American exploration firm dedicated to discovering critical minerals in Canada, has announced the initiation of Rio Tinto Exploration Canada’s (“RTEC”) first exploration program on the Legacy Lithium Project. This development follows the execution of an option to joint venture agreement between Saga and RTEC. The Legacy Lithium Project is situated in the highly regarded James Bay Lithium District, known for its significant lithium deposits. This partnership marks a pivotal step in advancing exploration efforts and potential development of this promising lithium project.

Rio Tinto Exploration Canada (RTEC), a Canadian subsidiary of the Rio Tinto Group (LSE: RIO, ASX: RIO, NYSE: RIO), has begun its initial exploration program on the Legacy Lithium Project. This project, located in Quebec’s Eeyou Istchee James Bay region, encompasses a lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatite exploration area with 663 claims spanning 34,243.76 hectares. These claims are governed by the Rio Tinto Option to Joint Venture Agreement. As previously outlined, RTEC will serve as the project operator under the Option Agreement throughout both the First and Second Option periods. To facilitate this, Saga and RTEC have established a technical committee to review and develop exploration programs, including the current one. The initial exploration program, managed by RTEC, has begun, with a two-week field operation scheduled. This initial phase will involve scouting for pegmatites using a helicopter and identifying potential landing pads for reconnaissance mapping and prospecting. Additionally, the team will make preliminary observations of outcrop abundance and assess regional and property-scale geology, with a particular emphasis on shear zones known to contain pegmatites in the area.

RTEC will resume field operations in Area 1, with a planned start date of September 9. This area, which has not yet been extensively explored, is located near known spodumene-pegmatite occurrences. Exploration efforts will concentrate on magnetic low domains that align with the metasedimentary belt contiguous to the Trieste Greenstone Belt.

Saga Metals Corp. is a North American exploration company strategically positioned in top-tier mining jurisdictions of Quebec and Labrador, Canada. The company is actively engaged in the discovery and exploration of critical minerals essential for the global green energy revolution.
