Rising Inventories Drive China Isothiazolinone Prices Down 4.5%

George Orwell 20-Jul-2026

China's Isothiazolinone market softened in June as fragile demand met expanding export availability, pressuring producers to trim offers. Early in the month, producers kept operating rates stable and logistics smooth, preserving Isothiazolinone export volumes. By mid-month, rising inventories and cautious buying prompted exporters to lower offers to stay competitive, while late-month conditions—ample production and softer overseas demand—accentuated downward sentiment. Market signals indicate subdued procurement in water-treatment and coatings, with Isothiazolinone exporters prioritizing stock clearance over price defense. Demand-side dynamics weighed on price direction; industrial water-treatment activity remained weak as procurement was delayed, and coatings demand softened with export buyers reducing fresh purchases due to inventory adequacy. Supply dynamics amplified the downshift, with steady feedstock availability and stable utility costs supporting production and higher inventories. Producers discounted Isothiazolinone offers; MIT 14% FOB Shanghai moved lower. The near-term view for Isothiazolinone is mixed, with modest downward pressure into mid-summer and late-summer, followed by a potential recovery in early autumn, before a renewed dip during year-end restocking across the market.

Selenis has effectively manufactured recycled PET chips using terephthalic acid sourced from Circ®, a textile-to-textile recycler based in Virginia. The chip production took place through a series of batches at Selenis' pilot plant in San-Giorgio, Italy. By utilizing inputs recovered from polycotton textile waste, Selenis has created high-quality PET chip, which has been further processed into DTY yarn. This yarn will play a crucial role in product development as Circ prepares for additional capsule launches. Selenis is leveraging the success of this initial collaboration phase and is committed to advancing towards an offtake partnership to support Circ's inaugural industrial facility. Eduardo Santos, Head of Corporate Strategy at Selenis, remarked that the monomer synthesis showed a performance comparable to virgin terephthalic acid. He expressed optimism about the consistent quality of Circ's monomer output and anticipated future commercial success. Santos pointed out that the Circ partnership complements Selenis's existing mission and goals for a more sustainable textile industry. He further stated their anticipation of expanding upon this collaboration and providing support for Circ's forthcoming commercial production trials.
