Honeywell has announced that Repsol had acquired a license for Honeywell Ecofining technology, enabling the production of renewable fuels from sources like used cooking oil and waste animal fat at Repsol's Puertollano facility in Spain. This plant is designed to convert approximately 240 thousand metric tons per annum (KMTA) of waste feedstocks into renewable diesel and other products.

The Honeywell UOP Ecofining process will provide Repsol with an efficient and high-yield solution for producing renewable fuels and petrochemical precursors from residual feedstocks. Berta Cabello, Repsol's Director of Renewable Fuels, emphasized the significance of renewable fuels in achieving their net-zero emissions goal by 2050, with Honeywell's Ecofining technology playing a pivotal role. This will mark Repsol's second plant exclusively dedicated to producing 100% renewable fuels, further establishing its presence in the market for these products in the Iberian Peninsula.

Barry Glickman, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Sustainable Technology Solutions, highlighted how Honeywell's Ecofining technology would enable Repsol to economically convert waste feeds into renewable fuels while reducing their carbon footprint. Renewable diesel and SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional diesel or aviation fuel.

The Honeywell UOP Ecofining process, developed in collaboration with Eni SpA, is capable of converting plant-based waste oils, animal fats, and other waste feedstocks into renewable diesel and SAF. Honeywell now offers a range of solutions across various feedstocks to meet the growing demand for renewable fuels, including SAF.

Honeywell has made a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations and facilities by 2035. This commitment builds upon the company's track record of significantly reducing the greenhouse gas intensity of its operations and facilities, along with its long-standing history of innovation to support customers in meeting their environmental and social objectives. In 2022, approximately 60% of Honeywell's new product introduction research and development investment was directed towards ESG-oriented outcomes for customers.

Repsol, a global multi-energy company, is at the forefront of the energy transition, aiming to achieve zero net emissions by 2050. The company is transforming its industrial complexes in Spain, Portugal, and Peru into multi-energy hubs, undertaking cutting-edge projects that will reduce their carbon footprint. These initiatives are set to make Repsol a benchmark in renewable fuel and renewable hydrogen production by 2030.

Honeywell, a Fortune 100 technology company, delivers industry-specific solutions that span aerospace products and services, control technologies for buildings and industry, and performance materials globally. Their technologies play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity, safety, and sustainability across sectors such as aviation, construction, manufacturing, and supply chains. Honeywell's mission is to make the world smarter, safer, and more sustainable through technological innovations.
