In February, the German market witnessed a decrease in Potato starch prices. This drop is attributed to diminishing demand from key sectors like food and pharmaceuticals, resulting in an excess supply of Potato starch within the domestic market. One contributing factor is the decline in potato prices, a primary raw material, aligning with the moderation of food prices in Germany. Additionally, the accumulation of potato stockpiles during the winter further bolstered supply levels, exacerbating the surplus and ultimately driving down Potato starch prices. Moreover, major Potato starch exporters such as the Netherlands also encountered a surplus, amplifying the situation for German prices. This surplus exerted additional pressure on the German market as heightened competition within the European market further contributed to the overall l decrease in prices.

Germany's economic woes deepened in February, with a marginal uptick in service sector activity failing to offset a stark deterioration in manufacturing. The most recent data underscored a profound contraction in manufacturing, with production witnessing the steepest decline, primarily driven by a deeper downturn in demand. Concurrently, new orders experienced a swifter decline, attributed to reduced sales both domestically and internationally, elucidating the drop in Potato starch prices in Germany. Additionally, freight rates exhibited a decline compared to the previous month, signaling the adjustment of global supply chains to the new reality stemming from the crisis in the Red Sea. This shift prompted traders to quote lower prices for Potato starch in both domestic and international markets. Moreover, the depreciation of Euro against USD in February, also made the export of Potato starch cheaper to other nations, further contributing to the downward trajectory.

German inflation experienced its second consecutive monthly decline in February, edging slightly below expectations, which may offer some relief to European Central Bank policymakers weighing the timing of the first interest rate cut. According to data from the German statistics office Destatis, consumer prices rose by 2.5% in February compared to the same period last year, a decrease from the 2.9% recorded in January. Notably, food prices saw a significant slowdown, with an inflation rate of 0.9% compared to January's 3.8%. Energy prices, while still declining year-on-year by 2.4%, moderated their descent compared to January's 2.8% drop. These shifts contributed to an overall reduction in manufacturing and transportation costs, which in turn impacted Potato starch prices.

ChemAnalyst's assessment suggests that the Potato starch market is expected to continue its lackluster performance in the coming months, primarily due to persistent low demand from end-user sectors and an oversupply in the market. Industry players are likely to prioritize the clearance of their inventories by offering discounted prices, exerting a downward influence on the overall market sentiment for Potato starch.
