In the first half of 2024, PETRONAS has made notable strides in its exploration and appraisal activities, achieving impressive results both in Peninsular Malaysia and around the world. Among the key highlights is the discovery of the Bekok Deep-1 oil and gas field in May, a significant find that stands out for its promising well test results, showcasing a strong hydrocarbon flow rate. This discovery not only underscores the substantial hydrocarbon potential within this new play but also represents a pivotal milestone in Peninsular Malaysia’s energy sector, marking one of the most significant developments in the past decade.

On the global front, PETRONAS marked another significant achievement in Suriname with the successful drilling of the Sloanea-2 appraisal well in Block 52, which took place in June. This discovery has significantly boosted PETRONAS’ prospects within the basin and opened up the potential for developing a standalone Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project at the field in the future. PETRONAS is now evaluating the feasibility of an integrated development strategy for both gas and oil extraction within Block 52, signaling the company’s commitment to maximizing the potential of this find.

Mohd Jukris Abdul Wahab, PETRONAS’ Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream, expressed his satisfaction with these achievements, stating, “We are extremely pleased with these breakthroughs, as they reaffirm PETRONAS’ commitment and expertise in providing exceptional value through substantial discoveries in Malaysia and internationally, driven by strategic and innovative approaches.” Jukris emphasized that these milestones highlight PETRONAS' ongoing efforts to enhance its exploration activities in strategically selected regions, focusing on sustainable resource replenishment.

PETRONAS continues to leverage advanced exploration technologies to ensure the delivery of cost-effective and reliable energy, particularly during this period of rapid energy transition. The company remains steadfast in its mission to discover and develop new resources, both in Malaysia and globally, contributing to the secure and sustainable supply of energy.

In summary, PETRONAS' accomplishments in the first half of 2024 reflect its strategic focus and technological prowess in exploration. The significant finds in Peninsular Malaysia and Suriname not only bolster the company's portfolio but also pave the way for future developments, such as the potential FLNG project in Suriname. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, PETRONAS is well-positioned to play a leading role in providing sustainable energy solutions worldwide.

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) is a worldwide energy company dedicated to producing and supplying the energy and solutions essential for advancing society in a responsible and sustainable manner.
