OCI Global (Euronext: OCI), a prominent manufacturer of nitrogen, methanol, and hydrogen products worldwide, has forged a long-term partnership with Waga Energy (EPA: WAGA), a global authority in Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production from landfills utilizing the patented WAGABOX® technology. This collaboration aims to enhance landfill gas to RNG at the City of Beaumont Landfill in Texas.

OCI Global has been an integral part of the Beaumont community since 2010. The company is presently constructing Texas Blue Clean Ammonia, its latest low carbon ammonia facility set to commence production in early 2025, nearby. This collaboration with Waga Energy and the City of Beaumont exemplifies OCI's ongoing dedication to the City and the Golden Triangle region.

OCI Global is strategically committed to decarbonization, and this endeavor, aimed at bolstering green methanol production, underscores its dedication to that objective. OCI Global intends to install a gas collection system at the City of Beaumont Landfill to capture landfill gas produced from organic waste. This gas will then be processed into Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) through a WAGABOX® unit installed on-site and subsequently integrated into the local gas infrastructure. The initiative is anticipated to create over 20 jobs during its construction phase, supplementing the existing workforce of more than 300 individuals employed by OCI in the region. Moreover, it will generate royalty revenues for the City of Beaumont once operational.

Under this agreement, OCI Global will possess ownership of the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) generated, while Waga Energy will be responsible for constructing, owning, operating, and maintaining the WAGABOX® unit through a gas upgrading service contract. This pioneering model, the first of its kind in the United States, is anticipated by Waga Energy to serve as a blueprint for addressing multiple landfills capable of generating RNG.

The facility, projected to commence operations in 2025, is estimated to prevent up to 27,440 tons of CO2eq emissions annually. This reduction is equivalent to eliminating emissions from 2.8 million gallons of gasoline each year, according to the calculation methodology of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition to curbing carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, harnessing biogas from landfills offers the advantage of utilizing methane, which, over a 20-year period, has a global warming potential 84 times higher than carbon dioxide, preventing its release into the atmosphere. Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) stands as a crucial element in the energy transition, serving as a local, renewable energy source capable of substituting fossil Natural Gas.

Developed over a span of 15 years, the WAGABOX® technology represents a groundbreaking advancement in landfill gas upgrading via cryogenics. This innovation optimizes landfill renewable energy production by delivering pipeline-quality Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), irrespective of fluctuations in landfill gas flow rate or composition, as well as nitrogen concentration. This facility marks OCI Global's inaugural RNG venture in Texas and represents the debut of Waga Energy's WAGABOX® unit in the state. Currently, Waga Energy operates 23 WAGABOX® units globally, with an additional 14 units currently in various stages of construction.
