NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd. ("NBAsia") initiated its inaugural transport of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on May 25. Departing from Singapore aboard an MR-type product tanker, the SAF will be discharged at the ports of Los Angeles and San Francisco in the United States, then distributed to airports in the vicinity.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a type of jet fuel derived from renewable sources like waste cooking oil. Renowned for its environmentally friendly properties, SAF can potentially decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel sourced from crude oil. Neste, a global leader in sustainable fuel production, commenced operations at a new SAF production facility in Singapore in June 2023. Its SAF products are currently utilized at prominent airports across the United States, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and other locations worldwide.

During its fifteen prior voyages, NBAsia has shipped Neste's refined diesel fuel, utilized to fuel construction machinery, trucks, and cars. NBAsia remains committed to advancing sustainability by transporting next-generation decarbonized fuels like renewable diesel and SAF.

NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., headquartered in Singapore, operates under the leadership of Managing Director Masanori Okuma.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) represents an alternative aviation fuel derived from non-petroleum sources, aimed at curbing emissions from air travel. Depending on the feedstock and production method, SAF can be blended at varying levels, typically ranging from 10% to 50%. SAF can be manufactured using renewable feedstocks that are not petroleum-based, such as the food and yard waste segment of municipal solid waste, woody biomass, fats, greases, oils, and various other feedstocks.
