NRW Holdings announced on October 22 that it signed a $1.6 billion coal mining services agreement (MSA) with Stanmore SMC Pty Ltd for their South Walker Creek Mine (SWC) in Central Queensland. This marks a record high for NRW's order book, pushing it to a staggering $7 billion.
The agreement will commence in January 2026 and will be executed by NRW's subsidiary, Golding Contractors Pty Ltd. Golding will manage and oversee all coal mining operations. It will operate eight fleets of heavy mining equipment and will be responsible for removing overburden and mining steel-making coal. Notably, the equipment utilized by Golding originates from the previously acquired HSE SWC contract which was finalized in August 2024.
This new contract is expected to create approximately 650 jobs. It will be focused on employing individuals who reside within the Central Queensland region. NRW CEO Jules Pemberton expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership and highlighted its continuation of a successful relationship with Stanmore. He also emphasized the combined strength of NRW's subsidiaries, with ADB (drilling and blasting) already working at SWC, and Golding now renewing its association.
He wrote in a presser, “I am delighted to announce that NRW has been awarded this contract with Stanmore, allowing us to build on the successful relationship we have had with Stanmore over a long period. NRW’s drilling and blasting subsidiary ADB is currently working with Stanmore at SWC and Golding now renews its prior association. With the addition of the SWC MSA, NRW’s order book climbs to a record $7 billion. I look forward to a successful partnership with Stanmore.”
The news of this contract sent NRW's (ASX:NWH) share price soaring. The stock reached A$3.86 on October 22, marking its highest point since May 2012 which was a surge of over 3.2%. Stanmore Resources, the mine's owner, also saw positive movement in its share price, climbing by as much as 2.9%.
NRW offers diversified contract services in Australia and Canada, specializing in civil construction, contract mining, and drill and blast services.
This agreement signifies a major win for NRW Holdings, solidifying its position as a leading provider of mining services in Australia. The substantial contract value and extended term ensure a significant boost to the company's order book, while the creation of new jobs brings economic benefits to the Central Queensland region. The continued collaboration between NRW and Stanmore promises a successful partnership for the future.
