NextChem (MAIRE) Secures Technology Licensing Contract for Maleic Anhydride Plant in Oman

MAIRE has announced that its subsidiary NextChem, through its technology licensor CONSER, has secured a major contract from Al Baleed Petrochemical Company (ABP). The deal involves the licensing of technology, delivery of a process design package, and supply of catalysts for a new maleic anhydride plant in Oman’s Salalah Free Zone. The plant, which will produce 50,000 tons of maleic anhydride annually, is a key part of a larger chemical park ABP is developing to capitalize on the value chains of LPG, methanol, and ammonia.

Maleic anhydride is a critical chemical used in the production of biodegradable plastics, contributing to the growing demand for sustainable materials. CONSER’s proprietary technology will be at the core of the project, with the company responsible for providing both the design package and ongoing technical assistance through the project’s execution, including commissioning and start-up phases. CONSER will also supply the necessary catalyst for the plant.

This project marks a significant development in establishing Oman as a key player in the biodegradable plastics market. The Salalah Free Zone’s strategic location and logistics infrastructure will support the broader ambitions of creating a regional hub for petrochemical and natural materials processing industries. By leveraging its strong technological capabilities, MAIRE aims to support Oman’s growing influence in sustainable chemicals production, particularly in biodegradable plastics.
