Neste Empowers Vietnam Airlines' Inaugural Flight with Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam's national carrier, has conducted its maiden flight utilizing Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™. At Changi Airport in Singapore, a Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321 was replenished with a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its journey back to Hanoi, Vietnam on May 27, 2024.

This achievement establishes Vietnam Airlines as the inaugural airline in Vietnam to incorporate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into its commercial passenger flights. Furthermore, the airline attained the distinction of being the first visiting carrier from the Asia-Pacific region to access Neste’s SAF supply services at Singapore Changi Airport. Neste manufactured the SAF at its Singapore refinery and, following blending with traditional jet fuel, facilitated the delivery of the fuel blend to Vietnam Airlines through Neste’s integrated supply chain at Changi Airport.

Vietnam Airlines' utilization of Neste-produced sustainable aviation fuel underscores Neste's enduring dedication to aiding airlines in mitigating aviation-related emissions and promoting awareness of SAF as a pivotal tool in curbing air travel emissions.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) represents a renewable aviation alternative, offering a more sustainable option compared to traditional, fossil-derived jet fuel. Utilizing Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel can lead to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% throughout the fuel's life cycle, in contrast to conventional jet fuel usage. Neste's SAF is derived entirely from sustainably sourced, 100% renewable waste and residue materials, including used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Before being deployed, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is blended with conventional jet fuel and smoothly integrates with current aircraft engines and fueling infrastructure.
