In a strategic alliance focused on enhancing sustainability within river cruise operations, Neste and OK Slurink, a subsidiary of Catom B.V. specializing in bunkering services, have partnered with Scylla, a leading provider in river cruises. The collaboration, initiated in February 2024, aims to supply Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ in the Netherlands for Scylla’s fleet of river cruise ships. This initiative represents a significant advancement in promoting environmentally responsible practices in inland shipping, particularly within the river cruise sector.

Under the agreement, OK Slurink will deliver Neste MY Renewable Diesel to power Scylla’s 40 river cruise vessels. Neste MY Renewable Diesel, derived entirely from renewable feedstocks, offers an immediate solution for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It delivers a substantial environmental benefit, achieving up to 75% or up to 95%* lower GHG emissions throughout its life cycle compared to conventional diesel fuels.

Marc Wouters, Sales Manager for Renewable Products at Neste, underscores the significance of Neste MY Renewable Diesel in advancing sustainable practices, emphasizing its role in achieving substantial emission reductions and promoting cleaner operations in the marine transportation sector. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a highly impactful solution aimed at lowering greenhouse gas emissions effectively and promptly available. Produced entirely from renewable raw materials, it reflects our dedication to assisting customers in reducing their carbon footprints. This renewable fuel plays a pivotal role in enhancing the sustainability of river cruises, aligning with our mission to provide environmentally friendly alternatives.

This collaboration addresses the urgent need for increased sustainability within the river cruise sector. Neste MY Renewable Diesel, possessing a chemical composition similar to fossil diesel, serves as a drop-in solution applicable across all diesel-powered vessels without requiring modifications to engines or infrastructure investments, ensuring seamless adoption and immediate environmental benefits.

Scylla, managing a fleet of 40 ships, underscores its firm commitment to sustainability within the river cruise industry. According to Robert Reitsma of Scylla, "Integrating Neste MY Renewable Diesel into our operations is a significant step toward forging a sustainable future." The partnership with Neste and OK Slurink signifies a collective effort aimed at reducing carbon footprints across the Netherlands.

This initiative sets a crucial precedent for the adoption of sustainable alternatives in river cruise operations. By choosing Neste MY Renewable Diesel, companies not only mitigate environmental impacts but also showcase the practicality of integrating sustainable solutions into existing frameworks seamlessly.

The collaboration among Neste, OK Slurink, and Scylla sends a resounding message to the industry, advocating for swift and comprehensive transitions toward sustainable and environmentally responsible river cruise operations in the Netherlands and beyond.

Neste employs advanced science and technology to convert waste and diverse resources into renewable fuels and circular raw materials. The company is a global leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel production, pioneering renewable and circular feedstock solutions for polymers and chemicals. Neste's mission is to combat climate change and promote a circular economy, aiming to assist customers in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030.
