On February 21st, Pokrovske Coal Group, a branch of the Metinvest Group, embarked on the operation of the 11th longwall for coking coal extraction within the 10th block of Pokrovske Mining Group. Despite grappling with arduous mining and geological conditions, the 11th longwall, stretching 242 meters in length, emerges as a beacon of promise. Endowed with reserves amounting to 993 thousand tons of coal, miners aspire to achieve a daily production rate of up to 2.5 thousand tons from this face. Forecasts suggest that the reserves of the longwall will sustain production for over a year.

The initiation of operations for the new longwall is celebrated as a monumental milestone for both the region and the nation, according to the company's proclamation. Entities under the Pokrovske Coal Group, operating in close proximity to the frontline, play a pivotal role in furnishing employment opportunities for denizens of the region and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Moreover, they contribute to the maturation of local communities, the augmentation of tax revenues, and the fortification of the national economy.

The provision of employment and wages holds particular significance for teams operating in frontline regions. Furthermore, it constitutes a substantial contribution to the maintenance of Ukraine's defense capabilities and the reinforcement of budgets at various administrative echelons.

Since the inception of the year, Ukrainian enterprises under Metinvest's purview have extracted an estimated 698 thousand tons of coal, yielding nearly 373 thousand tons of concentrate. By the denouement of 2024, the Group aims to extract 5.3 million tons of coal, produce 2.8 million tons of concentrate, and commission two additional longwall faces.

Presently, the Pokrovske Mine Administration is spearheading the construction of the 11th coal production unit, slated for inauguration in 2025. This endeavor stands as the most expansive investment project in the coal sector since Ukraine's attainment of independence.

Furthermore, in 2023, Metinvest Pokrovskugol attained a production output of 3.1 million tons of coal concentrate and accomplished the sinking of 20 kilometers of mine workings.

Metinvest is a global consortium of steel and mining enterprises, with operations spanning Ukraine, Italy, Bulgaria, the UK, and the US. The company engages in ore and coal mining, coke production, steel smelting, and the manufacture of rolled products, pipes, and other steel goods. The management of the group's assets is overseen by Metinvest Holding LLC.

The Pokrovs'ke coal mine stands as a significant coal deposit situated in southeastern Ukraine within Donetsk Oblast. It ranks among Ukraine's largest coal reserves, estimated at 79.5 million tonnes. The mine achieves an annual coal production of approximately 3.49 million tonnes.
