According to Delhi-based think-tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), if India uses green methanol for manufacturing petrochemicals, it can open 160,000 job opportunities in the manufacturing sector and lessen its import dependence for crude oil.

Fuel and feedstock requirements in the conventional production methods were met through imports but using green methanol in the manufacturing process would open job opportunities along the hydrogen supply chain.

India meets majority of its methanol demand through imports as the domestic manufacturing units rely primarily on the imported natural gas. According to CEEW, the petrochemicals sector has witnessed an increase in demand for more products and switching to sustainable manufacturing is likely to catalyze this demand.
