Maxol Launches Low Emission Biodiesel hvoPRO at Eight Locations

Eight sites and 30% of Maxol’s lubricant fleet have initiated the program. In line with its green vehicle mobility strategy, Maxol has announced the rollout of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a second-generation biofuel, at selected forecourts nationwide.

Derived from renewable feedstocks such as non-food grade vegetable oils, used cooking oils, and residue fat fractions, Maxol's hvoPRO cuts carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel.

Beginning in early April, eight locations of Ireland's leading family-owned forecourt and convenience retailer now provide Maxol hvoPRO, an eco-friendly, low carbon emissions fuel. The selected locations encompass M3 Mulhuddart and Turvey in Dublin, Coolshannagh in Monaghan, and across Northern Ireland: Mallusk, Townparks in Antrim, Eglinton in Derry, Ballymore in West Belfast, and Tannaghmore on the A26 from Antrim to Ballymena. Additional sites are slated for inclusion later this year.

Maxol hvoPRO is produced using a hydro-treating process akin to that of regular biodiesel. However, unlike traditional biodiesel, HVO undergoes hydrogenation, significantly enhancing its quality and performance characteristics. It requires no engine modifications and is compatible with most newer diesel engine vehicles.

Maxol's objective is to have 30% of its fleet running on Maxol hvoPRO by the end of May, with aspirations to elevate this to 50% by early 2025. This initiative aligns with Maxol’s mission to reduce its carbon footprint across all facets of the business.

Maxol hvoPRO, produced from waste products that comply with international sustainability and carbon standards, underscores Maxol’s commitment to cleaner fuel alternatives. It supplements the Maxol Premium Fuel lineup and comes after the recent introduction of Maxol Recharge in Newbridge, Kildare, marking the company's inaugural Ultra Rapid EV hub in the Republic of Ireland. This state-of-the-art hub features six high-speed 200 kW chargers, allowing for a quick 15-minute charge time.
