The scheduled major turnaround and maintenance activities at Neste's Porvoo refinery in Finland have been completed successfully. The refinery continues its operations of refining crude oil, renewable, and circular raw materials into over 100 diverse products for global customers.

"We successfully concluded a significant maintenance shutdown within a compressed timeframe. Neste has transitioned to shorter turnaround intervals following a thorough evaluation of the costs and risks associated with the previous five-year cycle. More frequent turnarounds are characterized by reduced complexity and smaller scopes. While the decision to adopt a shorter cycle of 2.5 to 3 years isn't directly linked to the transformation of the Porvoo refinery, it does facilitate a more adaptable implementation of necessary investments as we advance through the program," stated Markku Korvenranta, Executive Vice President of the Oil Products business unit at Neste.

"We completed various regulatory inspections, carried out maintenance on around 5,000 equipment units, and executed asset enhancement initiatives at the Porvoo refinery. These tasks are typically not feasible during routine operations. The turnaround efforts primarily targeted pressure equipment, rotating machinery, and pipelines. We extend our gratitude to all involved for their seamless collaboration, expertise, and ongoing dialogue throughout this process," summarized Jori Sahlsten, Senior Vice President of Refinery and Terminal Operations within the Oil Products business at Neste Porvoo.

Throughout the major turnaround, the Porvoo refinery stood as one of Finland's most expansive construction sites. A total of approximately 7,600 individuals participated in the turnaround activities, accumulating over 1.4 million working hours. The investment for the major turnaround in 2024 amounted to around 390 million euros.

Despite the extensive work, product deliveries to Neste's customers remained unaffected. Both the Kilpilahti harbor in Porvoo and the refinery distribution terminal continued operations as usual throughout the major turnaround.
