Lummus Technology, renowned worldwide for its cutting-edge process technologies and energy solutions, has unveiled its partnership with SABIC Fujian Petrochemical Co., Ltd., marking a significant leap forward in ethylene and co-monomer technologies. Established in 2022, SABIC Fujian Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. operates as a joint venture between SABIC Industrial Investment Company, a fully owned subsidiary of SABIC, and Fujian Fuhua Gulei Petrochemical Co., Ltd., which is owned by Fujian Energy and Petrochemical Group. The joint venture operates on a 51:49 basis, with SABIC holding the majority stake.

On January 22, 2024, SABIC announced a momentous decision, finalizing the investment for the SABIC Fujian Petrochemical Complex, also known as the Sino-Saudi Gulei Ethylene Complex Project. The construction of this complex is slated to commence this year, with an anticipated completion date in 2026. This initiative represents the largest single investment joint venture project involving foreign participation in Fujian Province to date.

Leon de Bruyn, President and CEO of Lummus Technology, extended accolades and congratulations to SABIC Fujian Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. for its significant investment decision. He expressed confidence in achieving further milestones and reaffirmed Lummus' commitment to supporting the success of the project. De Bruyn emphasized Lummus' unique ability to seamlessly integrate solutions throughout customers' investment and operational cycles, resulting in cost reduction, minimized energy consumption, enhanced reliability and productivity, and optimized operations.

Lummus' involvement in the project encompasses technology licensing and basic design engineering for an ethylene/propylene Mixed Feed Steam Cracker (MFSC) unit with a capacity of up to 1800 kilotons per annum (KTA) of ethylene and 1020 KTA of propylene, alongside a 60 KTA butene-1 unit and BTX (benzene, toluene, xylene) products. Moreover, Lummus will provide its exclusive heater equipment and CDModules®.

With a reputation as the leading licensor of ethylene technology globally, Lummus has licensed over 200 ethylene plants across the world, constituting approximately 45 percent of the global ethylene capacity. Moreover, Lummus has an impressive track record, having successfully completed over 250 ethylene grassroots, revamp, and expansion design projects, surpassing any competing technology licensor in this domain.

Lummus Technology stands at the forefront of pioneering technology solutions aimed at facilitating modern living and fostering a sustainable, low-carbon future. Leveraging expertise across various sectors including clean fuels, renewables, petrochemicals, polymers, and gas processing, Lummus offers a comprehensive suite of lifecycle services, catalysts, proprietary equipment, and digitalization solutions to clients globally, ensuring operational excellence and environmental stewardship.
