LOHUM Cleantech, India's leading sustainable critical minerals producer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with U.S.-based ReElement Technologies Corporation and American Metals to establish the first fully integrated battery recycling, repurposing, and critical material production facility in the United States. This joint venture (JV) will entail an investment of $30 million to create a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of 15.5 GWh, which is expected to generate 250 green jobs.

The partnership aims to supply over 315,000 electric vehicles annually, with plans for growth depending on feedstock availability. This integrated facility will manage the entire lifecycle of battery and critical minerals, encompassing battery cell testing and segregation for second-life energy storage applications, as well as recycling, mineral refining, and the production of engineered materials and battery-grade products. The facility will produce critical materials with a purity exceeding 99.5%, contributing significantly to the U.S. domestic battery ecosystem.

The initial site for this facility will be at the Marion Advanced Technology Center in Indiana, with potential expansions to additional locations as determined by the joint venture partners. Rajat Verma, Founder and CEO of LOHUM, commented on the collaboration, stating, “As LOHUM expands its presence in North America, we welcome this opportunity to partner with ReElement and American Metals, companies that share LOHUM's vision of 'making battery materials last forever.' We believe this joint venture will play a crucial role in establishing resilient critical material supply chains in the U.S. that can thrive through circularity. This development signifies an inspiring collaboration in U.S.-India technology through market entities.”

Mark Jensen, Chairman of American Metals and ReElement Technologies, also spoke positively about the joint venture, noting, “We have been working with LOHUM to leverage our unique capabilities and world-leading technologies at ReElement, alongside LOHUM's innovative and scalable approach to critical minerals recycling and refining. We are excited about the partnership, which combines the vast experience of both companies in recycling lithium-ion batteries.”

This initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable battery material production and recycling in the U.S., reinforcing the importance of circular economy practices in the battery industry.

LOHUM is India's largest producer and processor of sustainable critical minerals and the only company globally that offers integrated battery recycling and reuse. Awarded 'The Most Innovative Company of the Year 2022' by The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), LOHUM is dedicated to extending the lifespan of battery materials. As a leader in innovation, the company's research and development efforts are advancing sustainable climate technology. LOHUM's NEETM™ technology for recycling and extracting lithium-ion battery materials delivers high-quality outputs while generating zero waste.
