Lithium Universe Limited is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Servitank, a subsidiary of Groupe Somavrac, to enhance logistics and supply chain processes for its Becancour Lithium Refinery project. This strategic partnership aims to streamline the delivery of essential chemicals and support the efficient operation of the refinery, which is expected to produce 18,270 tonnes per annum of green battery-grade lithium carbonate.
The MOU outlines a collaborative effort where Servitank will act as the primary logistics partner, managing the transportation, storage, and delivery of key chemicals needed for the refining process. As a local company with extensive experience in multimodal logistics, Servitank is well-positioned to meet the needs of the rapidly growing lithium sector. The partnership will ensure the timely and reliable supply of critical reagents and raw materials, helping to minimize logistical costs and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Key Features of the Partnership:
• Strategic Logistics Collaboration: Servitank will provide a comprehensive solution for sourcing and transporting chemicals, including liquid reagents and bulk materials, to the Becancour Lithium Refinery.
• Local Expertise: With proven experience in managing spodumene logistics and storage, Servitank will help streamline the movement of critical materials, including the handling of spodumene sourced from global suppliers.
• Efficient Supply Chain:The partnership focuses on optimizing supply chain processes, simplifying operations by identifying a single logistics supplier capable of managing multiple chemical inputs. This streamlined approach will support Lithium Universe’s goal of efficient and sustainable lithium production.
• Secondary Product Management: Both companies will explore opportunities for managing by-products, including alumina silicate, with potential partnerships in industries like cement and pulp and paper. This aligns with Lithium Universe’s commitment to sustainability and circular economy practices.
• Storage and Handling Solutions:Servitank is evaluating storage solutions at its Becancour Port terminal and will investigate the construction of dedicated storage tanks for critical process reagents, further enhancing the reliability and cost-effectiveness of chemical supply logistics.
Iggy Tan, Chairman of Lithium Universe Limited, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “This collaboration with Servitank marks a crucial step in the development of our Becancour Lithium Refinery. Their expertise in supply chain management and logistics will enable us to efficiently source and deliver the necessary chemicals, simplify our operations, and ultimately contribute to the growth of the lithium sector. Together, we are paving the way for a robust, sustainable supply chain that supports the transition to a green energy future.”
While the MOU is non-binding, it sets the stage for further discussions and the development of detailed agreements. The partnership highlights Lithium Universe’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in the lithium industry, positioning the company as a key player in the global battery-grade lithium market.
Servitank, a Quebec-based logistics provider, is known for its expertise in optimizing supply chain processes across various industries. Its parent company, Groupe Somavrac, brings years of experience in the lithium sector, having successfully managed logistics for major players in North America.
