India Mustard oil Prices Rebound in May 2026 Amid Stronger Demand and Export Recovery

Nicholas Sparks 26-May-2026

India’s mustard oil market witnessed a steady price recovery in May 2026 after experiencing a decline in April, supported by improving domestic demand, firmer export enquiries, and tightening supply conditions. The market had softened in April due to peak rabi harvest arrivals, higher crushing activity, and improved logistics that increased finished oil availability and pressured lower prices. However, in May, reduced mustard seed arrivals after the harvest peak eased supply pressure on the market and strengthened pricing sentiment among crushers and traders. Demand from households, packaged food manufacturers, snack processors, and the food-service sector remained stable during the month, while export interest from Asian and Middle Eastern buyers further supported the upward trend. Additionally, firmer global palm and soybean oil prices improved inter-oil arbitrage dynamics, indirectly boosting mustard oil values in India. Market participants expect prices to remain moderately firm in the coming months due to balanced supply-demand fundamentals and stable crushing activity, although the approaching monsoon season may introduce procurement caution and temporary logistical challenges across key consuming regions.

Selenis has effectively manufactured recycled PET chips using terephthalic acid sourced from Circ®, a textile-to-textile recycler based in Virginia. The chip production took place through a series of batches at Selenis' pilot plant in San-Giorgio, Italy. By utilizing inputs recovered from polycotton textile waste, Selenis has created high-quality PET chip, which has been further processed into DTY yarn. This yarn will play a crucial role in product development as Circ prepares for additional capsule launches. Selenis is leveraging the success of this initial collaboration phase and is committed to advancing towards an offtake partnership to support Circ's inaugural industrial facility. Eduardo Santos, Head of Corporate Strategy at Selenis, remarked that the monomer synthesis showed a performance comparable to virgin terephthalic acid. He expressed optimism about the consistent quality of Circ's monomer output and anticipated future commercial success. Santos pointed out that the Circ partnership complements Selenis's existing mission and goals for a more sustainable textile industry. He further stated their anticipation of expanding upon this collaboration and providing support for Circ's forthcoming commercial production trials.
