India Lifts Anti-Dumping Inquest on MEG Imports from Saudi Arabia

India has terminated anti-dumping inquests of Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) from Saudi Arabia on request of the largest MEG producer of the country, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). However, investigation on MEG shipments from other leading exporters like Kuwait, UAE, Oman and Singapore will proceed as per the government norms. According to the ministry of commerce and industry, RIL asked to remove the inquest on exports of MEG from Saudi Arabia in early February this year. The request for this sudden removal of anti-dumping probe remains unknown to the ministry. In December last year, RIL along with India Glycols Limited had filed a petition for investigation on imports of MEG from five countries, as the companies were facing material injury to the domestic products due to cheaper imports. MEG is a prominent raw material for polyester industry and is mainly utilized for manufacturing of PET films, PET fibres and resins.
