ILJIN is Significantly Expanding into Aluminum Forging Sector With New Facility in Alabama

Based in South Korea, ILJIN, a prominent manufacturer of automotive and industrial bearings and chassis components, is making a notable entry into the Aluminum forging market to bolster its production capabilities. Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama's 54th governor, made this announcement. The company intends to invest nearly $100 million in its new forging operation in Auburn, Alabama.

"By combining our in-house forging expertise with cutting-edge technology, we will be able to provide our customers with Aluminum forgings of the highest quality while minimizing costs," remarked John Dix, president of ILJIN USA. This strategic integration aims to enhance our production efficiency and ensure that we meet the evolving needs of our clientele effectively.

ILJIN intends to set up its new operation in an existing facility at Auburn Technology Park North, generating around 160 jobs. The raw Aluminum forgings produced there will be transported to ILJIN's facility in Greer, South Carolina, for final processing. The transition to Aluminum will allow to produce stronger, lighter components, resulting in safer, more reliable, and fuel-efficient vehicles.

Historically centered on steel forging, ILJIN has been a key supplier of components such as control arms, stabilizer links, and ball joints to leading automotive manufacturers. The establishment of the new facility in Auburn will significantly increase the company's capacity to produce products made in the United States. This development will also facilitate the production of forged Aluminum control arms, allowing ILJIN to better serve a range of U.S. automotive clients and meet the growing demand for lightweight, high-performance components.
