Técnicas Reunidas has entered into an agreement with IGNIS P2X to provide engineering services for the design of potentially five green ammonia projects across various sites in Spain, with a potential investment exceeding 5 billion Euros.

Under the terms of the agreement, Técnicas Reunidas will offer comprehensive engineering services starting from the Feasibility Phase Through to Detailed Design (FEED), including technology evaluation and selection. The agreement also outlines execution alternatives for the identified project locations.

This collaboration aligns with IGNIS’ strategy in advancing new energy vectors. IGNIS, a globally integrated firm focused on renewable energy and innovative energy solutions, has been actively developing a portfolio exceeding 20 GW of renewable projects across Europe, the USA, Latin America, and Asia since its inception in 2015. Currently managing 6.6 GW of operational generation technologies, IGNIS provides tailored energy solutions to industries, SMEs, and consumers.

In a recent collaboration with KKR, IGNIS launched the IGNIS P2X platform, marking a significant move towards developing hydrogen and green ammonia projects designed specifically for industrially challenging sectors to decarbonize. This platform's strategic focus includes advancing technologies for green hydrogen, ammonia, e-methanol, e-fuels, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. Targeted industries span refining, steel manufacturing, chemical processing, fertilizer production, and more. IGNIS P2X aims to deliver tailored, innovative solutions that address the complex sustainability needs of these sectors, contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner industrial practices.

Técnicas Reunidas has actively pursued its decarbonization strategy, track, initiated last year, which encompasses a broad scope of services beyond traditional turnkey project execution (EPC) and project design (FEED). This strategic initiative includes engineering services during investment definition stages, project co-development, and the decarbonization of existing assets, along with venturing into new industries.

In 2023 and the early months of 2024, Técnicas Reunidas secured contracts totaling over 300 million euros for projects focused on low-emission technologies. These contracts primarily involve engineering services for initiatives within the hydrogen value chain, biofuels, and carbon capture sectors. The company has dedicated more than 1.8 million engineering hours to these projects.

Within the hydrogen value chain, Técnicas Reunidas has been involved in designing plants with a combined electrolysis capacity of 6,700 MW, significantly surpassing the current global installed capacity of 1,070 MW reported by the International Energy Agency.

Track's primary focus is on generating investment prospects in decarbonization initiatives. In line with this objective, it has initiated a new venture to develop and collaborate on projects in this sector.

Técnicas Reunidas’ agreement with IGNIS expands its portfolio beyond current green ammonia projects, recognized as pivotal for decarbonizing the fertilizer and shipping sectors, as well as facilitating green hydrogen transport. Among these initiatives are notable projects already disclosed, such as:

• Atlas Agro: Executing FEED for a green fertilizer facility on the U.S. west coast, capable of producing 650,000 tons annually.

• Fortescue: Conducting FEED for a green ammonia plant in Norway, featuring a 300 MW green hydrogen capacity from electrolyzers.

• Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners: Performing FEED for a 500 MW green hydrogen production facility in Andorra, Spain, utilizing electrolyzers.

These projects underscore Técnicas Reunidas’ commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions across diverse global markets.
