The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has granted environment clearance (EC) to GAIL India Ltd.’s project of addition of a new 60 Kilo Tonne Per Annum (KTPA) Polypropylene unit at an estimated cost of INR 910.56 crores at its Pata petrochemical complex in Uttar Pradesh. Propylene and Ethylene would be used as a feedstock as per their existing storage availability at the Pata complex without any additional infrastructural requirements. The power requirement for the proposed project will be 3 MW and it will be sourced from the state electricity grid. The project is envisaged to get completed within 30 months from the commencement of the construction work, providing employment to nearly 2300 people, directly and indirectly during the construction and operation phases. The new Polypropylene unit would manufacture three typical PP grades i.e. homopolymer, random copolymer and impact copolymer. Polypropylene is a thermoplastic addition polymer used widely in manufacturing versatile consumer products, plastic parts for automobile industry, packaging films and special products like living hinges and textiles, apart from other applications.
