In a momentous stride towards exploring new avenues in energy and aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission, GAIL (India) Limited has made a significant investment by establishing its maiden Green Hydrogen Plant at GAIL Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh. This landmark occasion was marked by the esteemed presence of Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Pankaj Jain, who presided over the inauguration ceremony on 24 May 2024. Among the distinguished attendees were GAIL's Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Sandeep Gupta, Director (Projects) Shri Deepak Gupta, Director (Human Resources) Shri Ayush Gupta, along with other senior officials.

The commissioning event of the plant, graced by senior officials including GAIL’s Chairman and Managing Director Sandeep Gupta, underscored its remarkable capacity to produce 4.3 tonnes per day of hydrogen with an exceptional purity level of 99.999 per cent. Initially, the produced hydrogen will be blended into natural gas to cater to internal needs at Vijaipur. However, the future outlook encompasses broader horizons, including the prospect of selling high-pressure hydrogen to nearby consumers and exploring its usage in applications beyond captive purposes.

This pivotal initiative exemplifies GAIL’s steadfast commitment towards championing environmental sustainability and fostering the adoption of renewable energy sources within the commodities sector, as well as on a national scale. It reflects the company's proactive approach in embracing green energy solutions as India transitions towards a cleaner, greener future.

GAIL (India) Limited stands as India's premier natural gas enterprise, boasting diverse interests across the natural gas value chain, encompassing trading, transmission, LPG production and transmission, LNG re-gasification, petrochemicals, city gas, and exploration and production (E&P), among others. With an extensive network spanning approximately 15,583 kilometers of natural gas pipelines across the nation, GAIL is actively engaged in multiple pipeline projects to further expand its reach. Dominating approximately 70% of the gas transmission market and commanding over 50% of gas trading in India, GAIL holds a formidable position in the industry. Its subsidiaries and joint ventures also enjoy significant market share in City Gas Distribution. Moreover, GAIL boasts a substantial portfolio in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) market and is actively pursuing expansion in renewable energy sectors such as Solar, Wind, and Biofuel. GAIL (India) Ltd was established in August 1984 as a Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the purview of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG). Initially entrusted with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Hazira-Vijaypur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) pipeline Project, the company undertook one of the largest cross-country natural gas pipeline projects globally. This pipeline, originally spanning 1800 kilometers, was constructed at an initial cost of Rs 1700 Crores, laying the groundwork for the development of the natural gas market in India.
