Fire Breaks Out at Santolubes Manufacturing LLC In Spartanburg County

South Carolina [US]: A chemical plant in Spartanburg County is currently on fire, as reported by multiple fire crews who are responding to the situation. The incident occurred at Santolubes Manufacturing LLC located on West Croft Circle at 6:45 pm on Wednesday. At least 10 local departments, comprising of 40 personnel, have arrived at the scene to address the issue.

Upon their arrival, crews were confronted with a raging fire at the plant premises, immediately commencing their efforts to put it out. Even after hours of relentless firefighting, multiple locations within the site were still actively ablaze until shortly before 10 p.m., when the crew finally managed to contain the inferno. Officials later found out that the fires had extended to the ductwork of the plant, which was as high as 30 feet above the ground.

The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained, however, authorities have stated that multiple parts of the facility and its operations were impacted during the incident.

According to officials, a non-toxic powder used for plastic and paper products was present in the fire at the plant. As a precautionary measure, the air quality and water runoff are being closely monitored by the concerned authorities. Although people in the vicinity of the plant might notice a burning smell, officials have assured that there is no threat to the community's safety.
