Evonik cements its position as a frontrunner in the biofuels industry of South America by strategically expanding its sodium methylate production capacity at its Rosario plant in Argentina. This expansion goes beyond simply increasing output; it underscores Evonik's dedication to driving innovation and promoting sustainable practices throughout the region's biofuel sector. By investing in increased sodium methylate production, a key catalyst in biodiesel production, Evonik empowers biofuel producers to operate more efficiently and potentially expand their own operations. This focus on innovation aligns with Evonik's commitment to sustainability, as increased biodiesel production contributes to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The expansion signifies Evonik's long-term vision for a greener future for South America's energy sector.

The decision to expand responds directly to the rising demand for biofuels in the region, resulting in a 50% annual capacity increase from 60,000 to 90,000 tons. This expansion aims to bolster the production of high-performance sodium methylate catalysts, which play a crucial role in enhancing biodiesel productivity and lowering production costs across South America. By scaling up operations, Evonik seeks to meet growing market needs efficiently while contributing to the region's sustainability goals in the biofuels sector.

Dr. Hendrik Schönfelder, Regional President for Central and South America at Evonik, emphasized the significance of the sodium methylate plant for Argentina and neighboring countries, particularly highlighting Brazil as a key export destination. He noted that the investment not only contributes to local economic resilience but also generates substantial local value.

The expansion aligns with Brazil’s recent mandate to blend 15% biodiesel (B15) with fossil diesel by 2025 and supports New Industry Brazil’s objectives to expand the biofuels sector. Evonik’s global strategy focuses on advancing the biodiesel industry, providing a reliable pathway for businesses to decarbonize transportation, meet greenhouse gas reduction goals, and decrease reliance on traditional fuels.

Cauê de Arruda, Head of Evonik Catalysts Central and South America, emphasized the significance of completing the sodium methylate production expansion in Argentina and advancing on the new alkoxide plant in Singapore. He stated that these developments strengthen Evonik's position as one of the largest global catalyst manufacturers and underscore their ongoing commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and leadership in the industry.

Dr. Harald Schwager, member of Evonik's Executive Board, highlighted the expansion of the plant's production as integral to Evonik's global strategy and long-term vision to lead advancements in the biodiesel sector. He emphasized South America's importance as a strategic growth region for Evonik, emphasizing their commitment to proximity to customers in South and North America, as well as the Asian market.

Evonik celebrated a significant safety achievement at its Rosario plant on July 11th. The ceremony recognized all site employees for their outstanding safety record, marking seven consecutive years without a lost-time accident. This accomplishment is further underscored by Evonik's presentation of the prestigious Silver Safety Award.
