Chemical major Dow has announced expansion of its Propylene Glycol (PG) production capacity in Thailand as the giant looks forward to seize the growing demand for the petrochemical used in diverse applications.

The expansion will be taking place at Dow’s existing facility in Map Ta Phut in Rayong, Thailand. Addition of the new 80 KTPA plant will increase Dow's total PG capacity in Thailand to 250 KTPA. The addition of Propylene Glycol facility is likely to fetch high returns which will also strengthen Dow’s grip on fragrance, food, pharma, and personal care markets. This investment plan of Dow falls within company’s previously committed capital expenditure targets.

The addition will make Rayong site as the largest Propylene Glycol producing facility in Asia-Pacific which will cater to the demand of customers throughout the region.

The facility is likely to begin production in 2024, subjected to no technical, operational, or managerial setbacks.

Jane Palmieri, president of Dow Industrial Intermediates and Infrastructure said that increased Propylene Glycol capacity optimizes their asset infrastructure to enable continued growth in high value applications and positions them to better serve customers in fast growing market.

Propylene Glycol is highly versatile chemical which finds its application in food, pharmaceuticals, industrial solvents, and other critical sectors.
