Covia, a top provider of mineral-based and material solutions for various industrial markets, announced today the completion of its previously disclosed acquisition of R.W. Sidley’s Industrial Minerals Division, which supplies high-quality, silica-based products for filtration, industrial, and sports applications.

The acquisition of Sidley’s silica sand mining operation in Thompson, Ohio, encompasses the quarry and reserves, along with specific buildings, machinery, and equipment essential for operations. This purchase allows Covia to expand its portfolio of industry-leading products. For instance, customers in search of high-quality bunker sand for golf courses now have the option to select from leading brands offered by a single supplier. Covia now offers Pro/Angle®, a premium angular sand made from pure silica quartz, alongside its BESTSAND™ products. Integrating the Thompson site into Covia's portfolio also enhances offerings in filter media, premium infill sand for athletic fields, and construction materials.

“The expanded portfolio and the combined strength of our teams will enable our customers to access the high-quality products they require,” said Barry Esposito, Covia’s Executive Vice President of Industrial Performance Materials for the U.S. and Canada. “We're excited to expand our network and product range, offering customers of both firms a wider selection and outstanding service.”

Covia is a leading provider of diverse mineral solutions across various industrial markets, including glass, ceramics, coatings, metals, foundry, polymers, construction, water filtration, sports and recreation, and oil and gas. Covia was formed in 2018 following the merger of Unimin and Fairmount Santrol. The company provides an extensive array of premium products including high-purity silica sand, nepheline syenite, feldspar, clay, kaolin, resin, and coated materials, all distributed through its expansive network. Covia has established long-standing relationships with a broad base of blue-chip customers. Its commitment to safety and sustainable development further enhances the value it delivers to all its stakeholders.

R.W. Sidley specializes in construction aggregates, industrial minerals, sports turf aggregates, and offers comprehensive design/build solutions for precast concrete structures through the Sidley Precast Group. Operating throughout the Great Lakes region, with facilities in Ohio and Pennsylvania, the company maintains a robust regional presence. This is further strengthened by its wholly owned transportation subsidiary, J.P. Jenks, which provides expert logistics and dedicated trucking services. Leveraging a vertical logistics approach, featuring a modern trucking fleet and expertise in oversized hauling, the company offers reduced freight costs, short or long-term storage, and punctual delivery across the U.S. and Canada. This unique blend of services and expansive geographical coverage provides a distinct competitive edge in the market.
