Thailand: Covestro, a leader in Polycarbonate (PC) specialty films, is investing in new production lines to meet the rising global demand for its products. Located within the Map Ta Phut Industrial Park in Thailand, the investment - which totals in the high double-digit millions of euro - will result in an increased capacity, allowing Covestro to provide products used primarily for identity documents, automotive displays and various electrical and electronic applications. The completion of this capacity expansion is projected by 2025 and will create 50 new jobs.

"With this investment, we are strengthening our Solutions & Specialties segment and are committed to further expanding our growth businesses," states Sucheta Govil, Chief Commercial Officer of Covestro. "At the same time, we are responding to an increasing demand and supporting the expansion of future technologies and industries."

"We want to drive growth in the Polycarbonate films business with innovation and a strong customer focus," says Aleta Richards, Global Head of the Specialty Films segment. "In doing so, we aim to intensify our collaboration with customers in the Asia-Pacific region and expand our product portfolio for the circular economy."

Covestro has a comprehensive selection of PC films that are more sustainable. These films use mass-balanced grades which comply with the widely accepted ISCC PLUS standard. Raw materials for making these films come from biowaste and residual materials, ensuring that all aspects of the production and value chain are considered and attributed to the products.

Covestro has announced that its Map Ta Phut site in Thailand has been certified as ISCC PLUS, beginning 2022. With this certification, the company is now able to manufacture and supply mass-balanced products to customers who are looking for sustainable solutions for their processes. Additionally, Covestro also offers a range of films composed partly from plant-based raw materials or recycled plastics.
