Cemex, a frontrunner in the building materials sector, and Clean Energy Fuels Corp., renowned as the primary provider of the most environmentally friendly fuel for transportation, have unveiled a fresh fueling pact. This agreement will furnish ultra-clean renewable natural gas (RNG) to energize 39 of Cemex US’s ready-mix and cement bulk trucks in Southern California. This collaboration marks the latest enhancement to Cemex's wide-ranging alternative fuel array for its California fleet. Moreover, this partnership represents the most recent addition to Cemex's portfolio of lower-carbon fuels for its California fleet.

Expected to deliver around 300,000 gallons of RNG annually, the fleet will leverage Clean Energy's public station network in Southern California for RNG fueling. RNG stands out as a transportation fuel with negative carbon intensity, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 300% compared to diesel.

In addition to the fresh fueling agreement, Clean Energy will establish a dedicated private fueling station specifically for Cemex's expanding RNG fleet. Situated in Rialto, CA, the new station will feature time-fill dispensers and a dedicated fast-fill dispenser to facilitate convenient and economical refueling. The construction of this project is slated for completion by the end of this year, with Cemex trucks commencing on-site refueling shortly thereafter. Clean Energy will provide RNG to the new private station and will handle its operation and maintenance upon completion.

Through its Future in Action initiative, emphasizing sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity, and natural resource management, the company aims to become a net-zero CO2 entity by 2050. By integrating RNG into a portion of its fleet, the company anticipates reducing fleet emissions by approximately 8,822 metric tons of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) annually. This decrease is comparable to taking 1,981 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles off the road for a year or planting 137,648 trees. "As leaders in the building materials sector, we acknowledge the significant role we have in shaping a sustainable future. Adopting renewable fuels is not just a choice; it's a necessity," stated Francisco Rivera, Cemex US Regional President – West Region. "Cemex's contributions are vital to the development of communities across California and the nation. Through the utilization of Clean Energy's renewable resources, we expedite our ambitious sustainability objectives, spur innovation, cultivate resilience, and establish a heritage of conscientious stewardship for future generations."

“Cemex distinguishes itself not only as a global leader in the building material industry but also as one of the forefront innovators in our sustainability journey. The increased RNG truck fleet will not only reduce carbon footprint across their operations but also address emissions linked to truck idling on site. Cemex’s partnership with Clean Energy for RNG fuel marks a significant stride forward,” commented Chad Lindholm, Senior Vice President at Clean Energy.

At present, Clean Energy boasts a network of more than 600 fueling stations across North America, continuously augmenting this count with stations deliberately constructed and strategically positioned to cater to commercial fleets.
