Canada Nickel Company Inc. has disclosed its intention, through its wholly-owned subsidiary NetZero Metals Inc., to embark on the development of two processing facilities within the Timmins Nickel District: a nickel processing plant and a stainless-steel and alloy production facility. These strategic initiatives are poised to emerge as significant contributors to the economic advancement of the Timmins Nickel District, while also fulfilling a crucial role in bolstering North American critical minerals supply chains and supporting the province's electric vehicle strategy. Central to these endeavors is the utilization of Canada Nickel's carbon storage capacity at its Crawford Nickel project, aiming to deliver zero carbon nickel and stainless steel and alloy production.

Presently, the company is in the pivotal stage of site selection, meticulously evaluating various sites within the region. Concurrently, it is in the process of engaging engineering firms to undertake the design of both facilities, with announcements regarding the selected firms expected imminently. Feasibility studies are already underway and are slated for completion by the end of the year, with the nickel processing plant anticipated to commence production by 2027. These forthcoming processing facilities hold the potential to position the Timmins Nickel District and Canada at the forefront of the global transition towards greener energy and materials.

Expressing pride in spearheading the development of new capacity to cater to the escalating demand for locally sourced critical minerals, Canada Nickel underscores its commitment to facilitating zero carbon, environmentally responsible production within North America. The company's initiatives underscore its belief in the region's potential and its dedication to establishing Timmins as a pivotal hub for clean nickel, indispensable for building the supply chain for electric vehicles. This initiative not only exemplifies Canada Nickel's commitment to fostering opportunity and local benefits but also underscores its role in propelling the region's economy forward.

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from various quarters, with local leaders hailing it as a pivotal moment for the entire province. The investment by Canada Nickel in expanding mineral processing capacity within Timmins is seen as a testament to the region's potential and underscores the company's confidence in the region's prospects for growth and prosperity.

Recognizing the significance of partnerships and collaboration, particularly with Indigenous communities, Canada Nickel's commitment to honouring its Treaty agreements and ensuring a genuine seat at the decision-making table has been underscored. Indigenous leaders have expressed pride in Canada Nickel's continued growth and development, particularly with regards to its future downstream processing facilities. This partnership, grounded in mutual respect and shared principles, exemplifies the potential for meaningful collaboration between industry and Indigenous communities.
